Benedetta Moresco concludes Augusta National Women’s Amateur tied for fourth place

AUGUSTA, Ga.Benedetta Moresco, a University of Alabama women’s golfer, burst onto the scene this weekend, finishing tied for fourth in the Augusta National Women’s Amateur at the Augusta National Golf Club on Saturday. The sophomore recorded a 71 under in the final round, one of four players to go under par on the prized track, going a total of 217 tournaments 1 over par.

Moresco ran rounds of 70, 76 and 71 throughout the third annual event. The Italian, who led the tournament after the first round and tied for sixth after the second round, was one of nine players to register at least one round under par and one of three players to register at minus two turns under par. by.

Despite a pair of bogeys on holes 4 and 5 to start the final round at Augusta National on Saturday, she responded with 10 pars and a trio of birdies. That included back-to-back birdies on holes 15 and 16 to go under par and eclipse the top five on the stretch.

Moresco trailed Augusta Women’s National Amateur Champion Anna Davis by just two strokes (1 under par 215), while trailing runners-up Ingrid Lindblad and Latanna Stone by just one stroke (par par 216) . Moresco tied Amari Avery and Beatrice Wallen for fourth place (1 over par 217).

The 20-year-old will return to the Capstone to prepare for the 2022 Southeastern Conference Tournament, April 13-17 at Greystone Golf and Country Club in Hoover, Alabama, with her Crimson Tide teammates.


  • An international field of amateur women will compete over 54 holes in stroke play.
  • A cut will take place after 36 holes, advancing the top 30 players to the final round at Augusta National Golf Club.
  • In the event of a tie after 54 holes, the winner will be determined by a sudden death playoff.


  • The first 36 holes will be played over two days on the Island and Bluff nines at Champions Retreat Golf Club in Augusta, Georgia on March 30-31, 2022.
  • The full field will then take on Augusta National for an official practice round on Friday, April 1.
  • The final round will take place at Augusta National on Saturday, April 2 and will feature the top 30 competitors who made the cut.
  • Tickets for the final round were made available in advance through an application process. No tickets will be available at the gates.

    • Past Augusta National Women’s Amateur Champions in the past five years
    • The 30 highest-ranked players in the United States of America based on the final year (2021) Women’s Amateur Golf Final Rankings, not otherwise qualified
    • After qualifying 1-8 above, the 30 highest ranked players not otherwise qualified, as listed in the final World Women’s Amateur Ranking of the previous year (2021)
    • Players receiving special invitations from the Augusta Women’s National Amateur Committee
