The Dunk Contest takes place Saturday during NBA All-Star Weekend 2022 at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse. Of course, the value isn’t quite the same in this tournament given that there are only four competitors, and that’s really unpredictable. Sometimes the judges are biased, other times the guys you pick can’t finish a dunk and end up fucking you because the ball didn’t go through the circle. Most of the time it’s about who was the most creative, and that’s really hard to factor into disability when you have no idea who’s going to do what. However, that won’t stop us from finding value and trying to make some quick bucks during the star break.

Here are the four contestants and one pick.

Jalen Green, +140 – Jalen Green has 33 dunks this year and is one of the most exciting young players in the league. At 6-foot-4 and 20, Green has that young athleticism and crazy rebound. Green had back-to-back dunks against the Celtics earlier in the season, and he showed the ability to stay in the air. This time out is going to give Green some chances to tap into his creativity, and that’s why he’s favored to win this event.

Obi Toppin, +200 – Obi Toppin and the dunk go together like peanut butter and jelly. Toppin has 72 dunks this season and 106 in his short NBA career. Toppin holds Dayton records with 10 dunks in a single game and 190 career dunks. Let’s also not forget that Toppin finished second in last year’s dunk contest, and you could argue he should have won. Toppin must be a strong contender to win the trophy.

Cole Anthony, +350 – Cole Anthony has only 12 dunks on the season and 16 for his career, but his slams have been impressive in the game and he can get distance through the air. Anthony also has experience in a dunk contest, having won the Fort Myers at the City of Palms Classic a few years ago. Anthony may be a playmaker who doesn’t make many dunk attempts, but he shouldn’t be sleeping here.

Juan Toscano-Anderson, +550 – Juan Toscano-Anderson has 21 dunks this season and 53 dunks in 122 games played. Toscano-Anderson had that impressive dunk against the Phoenix Suns in December that got everyone on their feet. Toscano-Anderson has great athleticism for a big guy at 6’6″ and he throws it around with authority. While he might not have the others’ names, Toscano-Anderson isn’t someone who should be overlooked.

Take: I could argue for any of these players to win the tournament, and there are so many unknowns in the dunk contest, so there’s really no wrong answer. Toscano-Anderson has terrific athleticism, Cole has experience in those settings, Poppin could have easily won it last year, and Green has one of the best rebounds in the league. That said, smaller players generally get more respect in these competitions, which is why I have to chalk it up here. The big ones are not respected. Green can get up with the best of them, and that’s going to allow him to do more in the air. It is important.

Give me Green to bring the trophy back to Houston.
