Graeme Dott defeats Lu Ning to win Group 2 and secure a spot in the Snooker Championship winner group
In what was the last competitive snooker match of 2021, Dott got the better of the trade at Leicester’s Morningside Arena.
It was a welcome return to form for 2006 world champion Dott, whose best performance so far this season was a race in the third round of the British Championship.

The Scotsman won the first game with a solid contribution and followed it in a style similar to the second after Lu missed a tough red in the middle right.
Lu kept the game alive with a 57 break in the third and had a shot in the fourth, but broke down in the balls and Dott stepped in to punish with a 97 break. The frame and the game were sealed. by the most scandalous stroke of luck. On what was match point, Dott missed a red in the left midfield but he hit both jaws and fell into the green pocket.
“I’m really happy,” Dott said. “Last night it looked like I was going to be eliminated. I played pretty well today.
“He (Lu) is a difficult player to play. He’s a good player, but he’s methodical and slow, and that can be quite off-putting at times. I managed to open the frames and I did well.
Reflecting on what has been a difficult 2021, Dott said, “This has been bad. I did not do well. There was a bit of exhaustion. “
Dott booked his spot in the final by beating Ryan Day 3-2, having led 2-0 at one point.
Lu qualified for the final after beating Joe Perry 3-2 in the play-offs. There was resentment in the game as they did not shake hands and words were exchanged by the players after the final frame.
Jack Lisowski will no longer play a role in the Championship League, as his loss to Lu in his last group game relegated him to one of two relegation points.
Gary Wilson, who cut a frustrated figure and threw his tail to the ground at one point, was the other player to be eliminated.
The Championship League resumes with Group Three on January 3, with Mark Selby, Mark Williams, Stuart Bingham, Ryan Day, Joe Perry, Xiao Guodong and Lu in action.
The group of winners will take place from February 2-3.
