Latest coronavirus: shortening the gap between AstraZeneca doses to 8 weeks for those over 40, according to health expert

New York state has the lowest seven-day average Covid-19 positivity rate at 0.44%, Governor Andrew Cuomo said, citing data from Johns Hopkins University.

On Sunday, the state’s health department said 383 new positive cases had been identified out of 110,437 tests, a rate of just 0.35%.

“We are pushing back Covid-19 across the state and New York has the lowest seven-day average positivity rate in the country, but it will take more vaccinations to get us across the finish line,” Cuomo said .

The state plans to offer “attractive incentives” for vaccinations, he added.

Cuomo said more than two-thirds of adults in New York City – 67.2% – now had at least one dose of the vaccine and 60% were fully vaccinated.

“I encourage all eligible people who have not yet been vaccinated to take advantage of a free $ 20 lottery ticket.

Scholarships from the State University of New York and University of the City of New York system were also available.

The number of new coronavirus cases in the United States has remained close to levels not seen since the early days of the pandemic, an encouraging drop that has prompted some states to reduce their daily reports on Covid-19 trends.

Covid-19-related infections, hospitalizations and deaths have fallen sharply since a winter wave, slowed by a vaccination rollout that began in December.

Globally, about 64% of American adults have now received at least one injection, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The United States reported 15,928 infections per day in the week ending June 10, down about half in a month and 94% from a peak of almost 251,085 in January, according to a Financial Times analysis of figures from Johns Hopkins University. .
