Nick Kyrgios hilariously puts heckler in place during Rafael Nadal clash (WATCH)
Nick Kyrgios had a funny exchange with a heckler during his Indian Wells Masters quarter-final against Rafael Nadal. A heckler from the crowd said something Kyrgios didn’t like and the Aussie turned to the heckler and asked him a question.
“Are you good at tennis,” Kyrgios asked the heckler. When the fan replied “no”, Kyrgios left. “Exactly!” said Kyrgios. “Then why are you talking?!?” Hollywood star Ben Stiller was in the crowd for the game between Kyrgios and Rafael Nadal.
“Do I tell him how to act!?!” Kyrgios asked, pointing his racquet at Stiller. “No!”
Kyrgios suffered a narrow defeat against Nadal
Kyrgios competed extremely well but Nadal escaped with a 7-6(0) 5-7 6-4 win.
After the match, Kyrgios weighed in on the heckling of the fans. “I just want people to know you’re a spectator,” Kyrgios said. “You bought tickets to come see us play. At least don’t shout before the first and second serves.
That’s all I ask. I’m not asking, and it’s both ways. “And I think it’s just that generation. Everyone feels their opinion is valid. For example, when you’re a spectator and you watch professionals playing tennis, you should just shut up.
You know what I mean? For example, don’t tell me how to play. For example, you couldn’t win a single point against Rafael Nadal. Sit in your seat and watch me play tennis. That’s it. Period.” Kyrgios thinks social media is one of the reasons heckling is becoming a bigger issue.
“It’s getting worse because of social media, people suddenly think they’re relevant. Like, you’re irrelevant,” Kyrgios said, according to Sportskeeda. “You have a little social media account that you tap people on.
You are spreading negativity. It’s embarrassing, and you can see how it affects people. It affects Westbrook. It affects people. It affects Osaka. It’s affected me for years and it’s not right.”
