Pelham Polar Plunge to be held January 22 – Shelby County Reporter

PELHAM – Thanks to the snowfall on Sunday evening January 2, it finally feels like winter is here, and that adds to the excitement surrounding the annual Pelham Polar Plunge which is due to take place on Saturday January 22.
The event is sponsored by the Pelham Police Department and the Alabama Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics. All proceeds from the diving will go to Special Olympics Alabama and allow more than 15,000 Special Olympics Alabama athletes to participate in athletic training and competition programs.
“In a world where we are reinventing everything we do, it looks like we are making changes to the Pelham Polar Plunge,” a statement said on the event’s Facebook page. “We want this event to grow even more by attracting families and spectators with the hope that they too will become the champions of our cause.
There will be food trucks available to snack on and also fun gifting opportunities for everyone involved. Registered divers will receive a t-shirt and the chance to win a door prize. There will even be a disguise contest for those registered to dive if they choose to come in costume.
The Pelham Polar Plunge program is as follows:
Noon: Check-in / On-site check-in begins at the main park office
Noon: 3:00 p.m .: Food will be available for purchase from food trucks throughout the event.
1:45 p.m .: Costume competition
1:50 p.m .: Safety briefing
2:00 p.m .: Polar Dive
The cost of registration in advance is $ 35 (T-shirt size guaranteed) and on the day of registration is $ 45 (T-shirt size NOT guaranteed).
A 2.9% processing fee is added to each ticket. This has been done to ensure that all of your donation will go to Special Olympics Alabama.
