The Irish festival will take place in Wean Park
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Mahoning Valley is once again hosting an Irish festival.
Mahoning Valley’s first Irish Festival will take place July 29-30 at Wean Park in the city centre. It will feature crafts, vendors, food, beer, live Irish music and dancing, a children’s area and more, according to Shannon Lehn, chair.
Penguin City Beer will create an Irish red ale specifically for the festival, Lehn said.
The festival has already booked Irish bands County Mayo and Weekend at Blarney’s, as well as the Burke School of Irish Dance, Mahoning Valley Pipes and Drums and storyteller Irish Bard.
Admission price has not been determined. Proceeds will benefit several local organizations, including the Mahoning Valley Gaelic Society.
The Mahoning Valley has not had an Irish festival for over a decade, when the annual gathering of clans ended.
Lehn said she and others decided to start the Mahoning Valley Irish Festival after attending a similar event in another city. She contacted JAC Management, which operates Wean Park, and launched the festival.
More artists, vendors, sponsors and donors are sought for the festival. For more information, visit mvirishfestival.com, email [email protected] or call Lehn on 330 770 6785
