Businessman, publican and now king of conference centers, one man from Geraldton says the whole region will reap the rewards of his latest venture.
In January 2020, the Gerald Apartment Hotel received a regional economic grant of $ 250,000 to help build a 350-person conference room in central Geraldton, with the company covering more than half the cost.
A week after opening, the Batavia Coast Conference Center has already hosted a real estate conference, two large-scale dinners, and a health conference.
According to owner Grant Pitman, his events team has about 30 more events planned for the next 12 months. “We hope to attract around 15,000 (to) 20,000 unique visitors to our city,” he said.
“Staying here for two or three days, that’s 30,000 pots of beer or 30,000 nights of accommodation if they stay two days.
“That’s what it’s all about: bringing unique visitors to the city and stimulating local businesses.
The hotel was also recently named a finalist for the Australian WA Hotel Association 2021 Awards of Excellence. The company is shortlisted for the prestigious award for Best Regional Accommodation for WA, with nominations for Housekeeping Manager Sheryll Giba, Deputy General Manager Gemma Clark and the Old Man & Hotel Rooftop Bar.
