The Winter Solstice Festival will take place in Waterford tonight

The Waterford Winter Firedance will take place on December 21, 2021.

The event consists of six specially organized concerts and exhibits spread across the county, culminating with a spectacular Sky Firedance fireworks display.

The Winter Firedance will bring together in one evening one of the most extensive and varied programs in this country.

From North County, South County, East County, Middle County, and West County, the Winter Firedance will cover it all.

Visual arts, experimental music, jazz, traditional, rock, poetry and storytelling will all take place at this event which will take place on the longest night of the year – the Winter Solstice.

The skies across the county will explode in a gigantic coordinated spectacle of fireworks.

For seven minutes, the sky above the Deise will be dominated by brocades, chrysanthemums, comets, waterfalls, dragon eggs, palm trees, strobes, whirlpools and willows. What a way to celebrate the longest and most mysterious night of the year!

The dual purpose of the Waterford Winter Firedance is to give as many people as possible the chance to go out, have fun and celebrate in safety, as well as employ the professionals who have been particularly affected over the past two years.
